Doug was born and raised in Calgary and the surrounding area. He graduated from the University of Calgary in 1977 and entered the business world with R-Mer Impact Devices, a start up bullet proofing business. After several years that business was sold and he joined Ikon Office Solutions. Doug quickly moved up from sales to management and finally to the position of Vice President of Sales (Prairie Region). It was in these management positions that Doug provided training and support to over 300 sales professionals and managers. Doug received many awards from that industry which include numerous sales and sales management awards as well as "Marketplace of the Year Awards".
Doug's sales and sales management background provided the groundwork for his step into Real Estate. There are many similarities and transferrable skills between the two industries, skills such as prospecting, sales and marketing, negotiating, and contract law just to name a few. The real estate business is going through enormous change as it relates to technology and how we interface with, and attract clients. The advantage to Doug's past experience is that RE/MAX Realty Professionals will employ all the latest training and technology to facilitate the success of its REALTORS®. The basic underlying philosophy is that we will constantly strive to ensure and improve the success of our REALTORS® and in doing that, the brokerage will also thrive.
Doug became Rick Bumphrey's business partner in RE/MAX Realty Professionals in 2005 and is now the broker / owner with Ricks retirement in 2009. After a successful time as a REALTOR®, Doug discontinued selling to focus his attention solely on improving RE/MAX Realty Professionals. Doug's business philosophy moving forward is no different than the one that built such a strong brokerage. In order to succeed you must surround yourself with good people, hire only professional REALTORS®, REALTORS® with strong moral fibre and who value their clients more than a commission cheque.
